Technical Artist – Unreal Engine (Performance & Optimisation Focus)

Salary: Up to £65k
Location: London, 3 days / week onsite
Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are supporting a well-established production house in their search for an experienced Unreal Engine Technical Artist. This is a key hire aimed at strengthening their technical pipeline and ensuring delivery of visually impressive, high-performance real-time content within Unreal Engine.

They require someone who understands the inner workings of the engine and can contribute meaningfully to optimisation, asset management, and scalable project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Optimise Unreal Engine projects at a low level, including GPU, RAM, and rendering performance.
  • Profile, debug and resolve performance issues across large-scale scenes.
  • Prepare projects for deployment – including asset clean-up, packaging, and documentation.
  • Build and maintain efficient real-time content pipelines.
  • Work closely with technical and creative teams to ensure performance targets are met without compromising visual quality.
  • Implement and refine systems using Blueprints and other in-engine tools.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong Unreal Engine experience, ideally on complex or performance-critical projects.
  • In-depth understanding of real-time optimisation – including draw call reduction, texture streaming, memory management, LOD systems, and light baking.
  • Proven experience preparing and cleaning up projects for final delivery or client handoff.
  • Advanced Blueprint knowledge for implementing technical functionality.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work across departments (art, engineering, production).

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with C++ (enough to support tool development or collaborate with engineering teams).
  • Familiarity with virtual production, visualisation, or real-time graphics pipelines.
  • Understanding of real-time shaders, materials, or post-processing performance impacts.
  • Experience working in content-heavy or fast-turnaround production environments.

Package

  • Salary up to £65,000 per annum.
  • Flexible working arrangements (hybrid).
  • Excellent head-room for progression.
  • Opportunity to work with a technically skilled team on ambitious, high-performance projects across real-time content delivery.
