Unity Technical Artist

Location: Remote (UK-based only)
Salary: Circa £70,000 per annum
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Overview

We are working with a well-established creative studio that develops interactive and immersive experiences across entertainment, learning, and cultural sectors. Their work combines gamified installation pieces, projection mapping, and screen-based content to create high-impact public experiences.

The studio is now looking for an experienced Unity Technical Artist to join their multidisciplinary team. This is a key role for someone who combines technical Unity/C# ability with a strong creative eye, and who thrives in collaborative, multi-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop interactive content using Unity and C#, with a focus on 3D graphics, shaders, lighting, and scene optimisation
  • Integrate visual assets, animation pipelines, and real-time effects to support creative storytelling
  • Work closely with 3D artists and software developers to deliver cohesive project outcomes
  • Ensure high performance across projection-mapped environments, screen-based installations, and networked content
  • Support the development of tools and workflows to streamline production
  • Contribute to ideation and problem-solving across disciplines, from prototyping through to final delivery

Required Skills and Experience

  • Professional Unity development experience with solid C# skills
  • Demonstrable background working on real-time, interactive installations or immersive content
  • Strong understanding of materials, lighting, VFX and post-processing in Unity
  • Comfortable communicating across design, technical and production teams
  • Familiarity with asset pipelines from 3D packages such as Blender, Maya, or Cinema 4D
  • Proven ability to optimise projects for live environments and cross-platform performance
  • A collaborative mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Confident working independently within a remote setup and contributing to team-based workflows

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with shader development, technical art, or asset optimisation
  • Understanding of multiplayer/networked Unity setups
  • Exposure to AR/VR toolkits (e.g., ARCore, ARKit, Hololens)
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts or pipelines is advantageous, though not essential

Cultural Fit

The studio values creative collaboration, a proactive attitude, and openness to new approaches. They are looking for someone who is both technically competent and comfortable being part of creative discussions—someone who enjoys solving problems and contributing ideas that shape the final output.

You’ll be joining a friendly, supportive team that values balance, transparency, and meaningful work. The role offers flexibility, autonomy, and a chance to work on diverse and technically challenging projects.

Salary and Location

  • Circa £70,000 depending on experience
  • Remote working, open to candidates based in the UK only
  • Flexible working hours supported
