Senior Unreal Developer – Immersive Tech Training/Simulation
Permanent | North Hill | £50,000 - £65,000 Per Year | Job No: 1999
Senior Unreal Developer – Immersive Tech Training/Simulation
We're partnering with one of Europe’s developers of AR and VR training solutions. Their award-winning projects have been successfully used across a broad range of industries, from defence and healthcare to corporate training.
Known for their cutting-edge work, they specialise in creating interactive training environments that reshape how industries approach skills development.
With a UK base and a growing global client list, they’re expanding due to recent growth and investment and are looking for a Lead Unreal Developer to join their innovation team.
What You'll Actually Do
Architecture Ownership
- Lead the coding architecture for immersive tech projects from initial structure through to delivery
- Work directly with R&D on new builds, not in a silo waiting for specs to arrive
- Support subcontractors through development and maintain code quality with documentation that others can actually follow
Technical Direction
- Horizon scanning is part of your job: evaluating emerging technologies, tools, and solutions that could strengthen client programmes
- Your technical judgement shapes what gets adopted. You'll have input into the roadmap, not just the backlog
- Collaborate with the team to define working practices as the company grows
Skills Development
- Funded training into AR, AI, web, and mobile development if you want to expand beyond Unreal
- As Senior Unreal Developer, your growth path isn't locked to one engine or one discipline
Skills Required
- Strong track record working with Unreal Engine
- Confident with C++ and professional coding standards
- VR projects you've actually delivered, not just prototyped
- Experience profiling and optimising performance: identifying GPU/CPU issues, reducing draw calls, implementing occlusion culling
- Daily use of source control and modern development environments
- Code documentation that others can follow
- Relevant degree: computer science, software engineering, games technology or equivalent
What Makes This Senior Unreal Developer Role Different?
Real Influence
Small team means your technical decisions land. No six layers of approval. No death by committee. When you make a call on architecture, it gets implemented.
Direct R&D Access
You're in the room when technical decisions get made. This Senior Unreal Developer role sits at the intersection of development and research, not downstream from it.
Paid to Evaluate New Tech
Horizon scanning is in the job description. You're not squeezing research into evenings and weekends. It's part of what they're paying you for.
Project Variety
Public and private sector clients. Short builds and multi-year programmes. You won't be maintaining the same codebase for three years, wondering where your career went.
What's In It For You
Compensation & Benefits
Salary matched to experience within the band. Family medical cover. Family dental cover. 7% pension. 25 days leave plus your birthday off, with annual increments. Cycle to work and EV schemes.
Working Environment
Hybrid from a state-of-the-art Portsmouth facility with proper kit. Not a converted cupboard with a headset gathering dust.
Career Trajectory
A team that's growing and wants a Senior Unreal Developer to help define its technical culture, not just fit into an existing structure.
If you’re an experienced Lead Unreal Developer looking for the next step in your career and want to be part of a team that’s transforming immersive training, click apply. We’re excited to hear from you!
